I plow next to the fence, it gives the critters a visual and physical barrier so they don't often get to the fence. Are they used to an electric wire where they are? Ive started to go back to the steel or aluminum wire for the calves, seems to work better. The Dare poly wire dose not carry the elcetric like the Stafix 9 wire from Kencove. Depending on your terrain, I would use steel tee posts with insulators and aluminum wire. However with 2 wires you will need something else. I use them as corners for temporary single wire fences, Pigtail step-ins are worth the cost as they last. While steel tee posts are not very popular here with electric fencing, they do have strength and can be driven and removed fairly easily. ![]() T posts and 2 wires might hold them wit a real hot (6 joule ) fencer and good grounds. I'd be very concerned about putting spring calves especially that have not been trained to electric fencing on stalks with just a single hot wire and no other fences. Probably need to put up two wires to keep the younger ones in, we have no fences anywhere if they get out (only cows in the area ). Which brand of "twine" wire is worth buying? Gallagher was recommended but most local farm stores sell Dare or Zareba brand wire. I have time to put up some electric fence. We have to buy everything for this project, have nothing left from my 4-H days with electric fence. Currently buying hay now and would like to give the cattle some room until winter sets in. I left 4 acres of stalks untilled near the buildings. ![]() Posted 06:52 (#4882170) Subject: Electric fence for stalks- noviceįirst year with some bred heifers (2 ) and a couple more spring club calves around the farm.
