Time for dinner arrived and all was going well until the food arrived. ![]() I explained that my wife would be joining me shortly but the waitress was insistent that I sign the bill for my drink and wouldn’t leave the bar bill open whilst I waited for my wife. Putting an upside down teaspoon in an open bottle of champagne doesn’t keep it sparkling. I had to complain and a fresh glass was offered. I sat in the lounge and was served a £13 glass of flat champagne which I suspect had been poured from a bottle that had been open for days. Whilst my wife was making use of the very ‘compact bathroom’ facilities I went down to the bar and ordered a glass of champagne. The venetian blinds were thick with dust as were the bedside lamps and other surfaces in the room. I doubt that it has seen a duster for weeks. We were moved to room ‘Primrose’ which to my wife’s disappointment didn’t have a bath so now not only was she at a Spa hotel where she couldn’t enjoy any of the advertised treatments on our wedding anniversary but we end up in a room where she can’t even take a bath. The noise was very intrusive and I can’t imagine anyone paying £ 250 a night to sleep in that room. Upon arrival we checked in and were taken to room ‘Magnolia’ where we immediately encountered the background noise from the heating system and had to change rooms. What is the point of booking to stay in a Spa hotel that can’t offer the treatments advertised to the hotel’s own guests? Not to be deterred, I convinced myself that changing hotel was perhaps an overreaction and the promise of a meal in the AA 3 Rosette restaurant would make up for the lack of Spa facilities. ![]() I phoned up to book something for my wife only to be told that all treatments were fully booked. The email included an attachment containing details of various Spa and beauty treatments that were available. No confirmation email arrived so I sent my own email requesting the information and later I received a reply to my email. ![]() Having made our reservation by phone I awaited the promised email to confirm our booking and with accompanying details of the Hotel and Spa facilities. 8th December 2008 Dear Sir, On the 28th November, my wife and I stayed at the Rowhill Grange on the occasion of our wedding anniversary. Do yourselves a big favour - save your money and stay elsewhere, the Rowhill Grange is a big disappointment. I am not really surprised as this is very much in keeping with the attitude we experienced at the hotel. Having submitted my customer feedback form and written this letter, I heard nothing. Here follows the text of a letter I wrote to the hotel following our stay at the end of last year. If you don't want to read the whole review - in a nutshell The Rowhill Grange is overpriced and claiming to be a up market health Spa hotel when it fact it is little more than a very mediocre and rather shabby Bed & Breakfast and the management clearly don't care much about their guests comfort and enjoyment.
